Beazer Homes USA Joins HomeAid America as National Sponsor

August 28, 1998 at 12:00 AM EDT
Costa Mesa, Calif. (August 28, 1998) - Beazer Homes USA, one of the nation's top 10 largest homebuilding companies, has recently signed on as a national builder sponsor for HomeAid America, a nationwide non-profit organization which builds and renovates of shelters for temporarily homeless men, women and children.

With a commitment to building shelters in HomeAid Chapters where it operates, Beazer Homes will work closely with its subcontractors, suppliers and consultants in current HomeAid Chapters located in Southern California, Sacramento and Phoenix. "We are very excited about this partnership," said Ian McCarthy, president and CEO of Beazer Homes USA. "Beazer Homes has a strong commitment to important community causes and the building industry's HomeAid program is a perfect way for us to give back to communities we do business in throughout the country. The bottom line for us in this case is helping to provide shelter and with it, hope for the temporarily homeless."

Beazer Homes launched its commitment by working with HomeAid Orange County to complete Casa Teresa, a 3,000-square-foot, 12-bed shelter for women in crisis pregnancy located in Orange, Calif. In addition, Beazer's Northern California division is assisting HomeAid Sacramento with the Sacramento Children's Receiving Center, by building a 10-bed facility to house children, ages two to seven, rescued from violent environments. Beazer has also initiated its support for HomeAid Arizona, which operates in the Phoenix area.

"We are elated to have Beazer Homes on board as a major HomeAid America sponsor," said HomeAid America president, L.C. "Bob" Albertson, Jr., who is president of American Family Communities. "Beazer divisions in Northern and Southern California are already making an outstanding contribution to the HomeAid program."

First established in Orange County, Calif., HomeAid America has seven active chapters that operate under the auspices of HomeAid America, Inc. Each chapter is connected with a local homebuilding affiliate of the National Association of Homebuilders. A HomeAid chapter identifies an effective, local homeless care provider which needs new or expanded facilities to help more people, and then marshals in-kind donations of labor, materials and consulting services from building industry subcontractors, suppliers and consultants.

The shelter project is then completed under the supervision of a builder captain, (typically a local homebuilding company), who provides supervision and coordination of donated goods and services. The end result is a facility that helps homeless families and individuals become independent, self-sufficient members of their local communities.

Beazer Homes USA, Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., is one of the nation's largest geographically diversified homebuilders. The company currently has operations in nine states; five in the Southeast, three in the Southwest and one in Texas. It has been doing business in the United States since 1985 and has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 1994.
